The Call

(written by Mom)
This was a big day at our house!  We got a phone call from the post office this morning at 6:45 to let us know that a large, white envelope had arrived with Joshua's name on it… what exceptional service that makes us love our hometown even more.
Early morning post office pick-up
I'm not sure how Joshua was able to concentrate at school today!  In fact, I'm not sure how any of us were able to concentrate on anything!  This evening, we invited our extended family, our Young Men's president, our bishop and his wife to join us as he opened his call.  Several other family members from out-of-state joined us via FaceTime and Skype… oh, the miracle of technology!  As people started arriving at our home, we asked them to make two predictions about where he would be called -- one guess stateside and one guess foreign.
Marking predictions on our world map
After everyone was here, Joseph led us in singing "Called to Serve," and Grandpa Chamberlain offered a prayer.  Everyone was at full attention when Joshua opened the envelope and read:

"Dear Elder Chamberlain,  You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You are assigned to labor in the Texas McAllen Mission."  Yahoo!!!  "It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 24 months.  You should report to the Mexico Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, September 10, 2014."  Ooooo!  "You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Spanish language."  Hooray!!!

"Dear Elder Chamberlain..."

Such a great support network

Grandma and Grandpa Chamberlain are currently serving in the Provo Utah Mission as ESL teachers!

Grandma and Grandpa Davis will leave on their mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in just a few days!

Our future missionary!

We are so excited, happy, grateful, and proud of Joshua!!!  What a special experience tonight was, and we know this is just the beginning!
